Weit, weit im Süden Belgiens liegt ein Dorf, das wohl niemals den Wettbewerb "Unser Dorf soll schöner werden" gewinnen wird. Jedenfalls nicht, so lange nach herkömmlichen Maßstäben gemessen wird.
Normalerweise hat ein Ort einen Schrottplatz - und nicht umgekehrt. Hier dominieren jedoch die Hinterlaßenschaften verschiedener Schrottplätze das Dorf, das aussieht, als sei es irgendwie zufällig mitten darin gegründet worden.
Die Erklärung ist eigentlich ganz einfach: in der Nähe des Ortes lag früher eine große amerikanische Militärbasis. Die ausgemusterten Autos der Soldaten landeten irgendwann auf einem der vier Plätze eines geschäftstüchtigen Schrotthändlers. Oder auch schon mal daneben ...

Umweltvorlagen gab es damals wohl noch nicht und so wurden die Fahrzeuge mitunter einfach in einer Anpflanzung abgestellt, die inzwischen zu einem kleinen Wäldchen herangewachsen ist. Zwei Schrottplätze sind inzwischen beseitigt und auch den übrigen wird wohl bald ein ähnliches Schicksal drohen.

Far, far to the south of Belgium exists a village that probably never could win the (german) competition "Our village should look more beautiful". At all events not so long as conventional standards will measured.
Normally a scrap yard belongs to a town - and not vice versa. However - here the relicts of different scrap yards dominate the village, which looks like founded somehow accidentally in the middle of them.
The explanation is really quite simple: in the vicinity of the site was formerly a major american military base. The discarded cars of the soldiers often arrived on one of the four places of an enterprising scrap dealer. Or sometimes beside ...

Probably environmental laws didn't exist and so the cars were placed sometimes just inside a plantation, which has grown now to a small forrest. In between two scrap yards are eliminated and probably soon the others will happen to a similar fate.
